Hi, I'm Stan and I like to make things. I have a strong belief that all people are inherently meant to create things. In the blood so to speak. I have watched thousands of RUclips videos of people from all over the world making things from the simple to the very complex and have been inspired by them all. Our house is full of things that I make so my daughters encouraged me to start filming some of the things I make and start this channel as a way to share back. I'm also a full-time teacher and I sincerely hope that some of my videos inspire you to begin your own journey of making. Enjoy!

An ASMR Mallet build from an Apple Branch
Просмотров 11 тыс.3 года назад
I saved this branch a couple of years ago when my wife pruned one of our apple trees. I had it in my mind that I would some day like to try to make a mallet out of it for using with chisels and gouges. Apple is probably not the best wood for a mallet head...but...it doesn't seem to be too bad either. Overall I really like the weight and balance of this mallet and I'm pretty pleased with it.

Cherry wood branch pipe with hand tools!

After the power company cleared some cherry trees near my house from the power lines I saved some of the wood and had an idea that I might be able to make another pipe from a trunk and a branch. This video was my process.

Making a Simple Floating Frame from plywood scraps and a 2x6...gorgeous!
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
My niece is a budding photographer and on a family trip to Alaska in 2018 snapped a beautiful photo of a mountain lake. You can check out her work and purchase photos here hnmphotography.smugmug.com/ My brother had it put to canvas and asked me to make a frame for it. After watching a Jon Peters video on floating frames I was inspired. Originally, I was going to paint the frame black...which is...
Simple Dowel Jig Made with Spare Lamp Rods
Просмотров 9203 года назад
Dowels are an easy and effective way to strength butt joints, miter joints and edge joints. Here's an easy way to make a jig with inexpensive threaded rod for lamps...a scrap of plywood and some acrylic (I got mine from a broken windshield of a golf cart). The project only takes about an hour and will make you a simple, reliable jig. The inside diameter of the threaded rod takes a 17/64 inch dr...

Mid Century Modern TV Stand

I made this TV stand after we bought a new television that had a base that was too large for the old stand. The biggest upside to making something like this for yourself is that you can fit everything you want in it. Cheap and Easy DIY Eraser Stamps

Here's a quick little video I did to show you a project I do in my Maker's Space class at school. It's a fun and inexpensive way for students to make their own stamps. These are fun to add initials or logos to their papers and notebooks. As mentioned in the video, if you try this...please be careful when making and using the gouges...they are sharp and can cut you. DIY Longboard for my Daughter
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
My youngest daughter recently rode a longboard with a friend for the first time and had so much fun she asked me if we could make one. I said of course! This project was fun because we used some wood from an ash tree that fell in a snow storm in our yard. There is nothing better than making things with and for your wife and kids. She also did all of the filming for this video and I think in tur...

Oregon Golf Tee Markers...Custom Made
got some great woodworking skills there. I might try something like that. a wood pipe like that couldn't get any closer to nature puffing on good green
Long time since i saw a hand drill being used.nice
Thank you...sometimes I just find it nice to unplug in the workshop...both literally and figuratively.
Gracias 🙂
Thank you for this. I used some scrap leather to wrap my leather tools
Hi Karl...glad it was of use to you
What did you use to rub on the outside?
It's a mixture of mineral oil and beeswax
@@StanCrafted Awesome, thank you greatly.
Is approximately 8 months of drying appropriate for fresh cut green cherry wood?
As long as the branch isn't much over an inch in diameter you should be alright.
Awesome, thanks for the info! @@StanCrafted
brilliant
Thanks, mate
Nice work on the pipe, and I enjoyed the quiet video. Cherrywood pipes are well known in the piping community, and they can be found on the online used market as vintage and with bark on as yours. I believe Ropp made quite a few in France. If you don't mind, is that a vintage "eggbeater" hand drill and what make? Thank you
Thank you for the kind words. Ropp pipes were the inspiration for this pipe and other cherry pipes I have made. That is indeed an old eegbeater drill. Not certain of the make...picked it up at a garage sale some 20 odd years ago for a dollar. Thanks again.
What was the cotton for?
Do you have to treat the inside for anything before use? Great job
Thank you...I didn't treat the inside...just need to break it in by building up what's called the "cake". If you do a search here on RUclips for that you'll see there are many methods of doing so. I did this one by starting with a small amount of tobacco and working up to a full bowl.
Hi! Great build. What are and where did you get the metal covers for the cotton?
Thank you...those were drain covers for a bathroom sink that I got at the hardware store.
Well done. Can you tell me what wax you put on it at the end? Thanks
Thank you. It is a combination of beeswax and mineral oil that I make myself.
Won’t that glue add chemicals to the smoke?
How making native peace-pipe?
You made it . Well done
Thank you!
nope
yep
This is more a show of your shop tools. Good vid tho
Me ha encantado !!!. Muchísimas gracias por el vídeo.
What are the dimensions of your catch box
One comment only: beautifully tasteful
Thank you very much...that is very kind of you.
Nicely done sir.
Thank you very much.
Are you sure that they’ll use it?
They did not where I first hung it near the house. I've relocated it to the woods and haven't checked back yet.
Mad respect! It's tough enough using power tools to drill the stem. I use woods with a soft core.My favorite stem material is dried rose stem. It has a soft core that you can remove with a piece of coat hanger. Beautiful Job my Man!!
Thank you so much! Sorry for the slow reply...where I live in Oregon we were without power for 12 days because of ice storm damage. I'm going to try dried rose stem for sure. Can you steam bend that?
Did you you use 2 pieces of 1/4 plywood and glued them together for the disc? Or is it just one piece? Also how big is the disc? And the space between them? Thanks
Very nice, but not sure about the glue. Would it be possible to include how to "season" a new pipe?
I would love to do exactly this myself (especially taking advantage of the taste/smell of Cherry Wood) What kind of finish did you put on it right at the end?
Hi Jacob, thanks! Definitely make one...it was a fun build. I used a combination of mineral oil and beeswax to finish the pipe...about a 50/50 mix. I heated the beeswax to liquid first...then stirred them well and let it cool.
Thank you for your response! that sounds like a great idea for a finish@@StanCrafted
Thi is so great job. The best catch box ever! Thank you.
Thank you very much. If you build one I would suggest making it a couple of inches deeper than this one. Occasionally I will have a shot bounce out.
do we remember, connected rainbows?
Equally spaced fingers anyone?... measure the width of your wood and divide it by the number of fingers required. Measure and cut one finger template and position it on your fence according to your preferred layout. I find it works best if you make your first cut at each end working towards the middle as any slight difference in over/under cuts ends up exactly matching it's corresponding piece.
I want 1 please and thank you
Hi Tyler...Thanks so much for the comment. I sell similar pipes on Etsy...they are two piece and not one piece as finding material and making one piece pipes is simply not cost effective. Here's a link www.etsy.com/listing/1567323804/rustic-cherry-natural-wooden-tobacco
That was amazing. Beautifully hand crafted.
Thank you very much.
I have never smoked a cherry wood. But a uncle had one, and claimed (once burned in) a sweeter taste to the tobacco. (Borkum Riff, or St. Bruno) Thank you for sharing this very interesting video.
Thanks for the comment! I don't smoke a lot or have a lot of different pipes...mostly what I've made. I like cherry as well as any other.
Is there an optimal diameter for the stem channel?
I believe 5/32" is about standard for pipes...but, I've used 1/8" successfully as well. Thanks!
@@StanCrafted thanks for the response.
Absolutely...good luck if you build one!@@Sleepindragon2
Fantastic job and I thank you for sharing !!!!
Thank you!
Well done sir! What kind of finish did you apply?
It's a blend of mineral oil and beeswax I make...seems to be a pretty good wood and leather finish.
Glad to see i'm not the only one who stands and sands or things like it.
And there you have it folks. $2,600 worth of wood working power and you too can build a hummingbird platform. 😙
And there you have it folks. $26 worth of keyboard and you too can make snarky comments that have no real value...
@@StanCrafted: Maybe my "snarky" comment comes from my deep down jealousy of your tool inventory and skill in using them. 🤤 My apology for letting it show.
Hi Tim...honestly...it's me that owes the apology. Had a rough day...rough week to be honest...and I let it get the best of me. I'm sorry...I was being snarky with my comment.@@notsohandytim5090

Good for gift giving, Christmas is near.
Nice video, using cheap tools to make lathe tools, can use for making chess pieces, possibilities are endless.
Chess pieces would be a great turning project...I just need to learn how to play :)
Precise and detailed, like when you showed the poly coat minwax product.
Thank you!
Do you have to wait after gathering the tree branch
If the wood is green you do...otherwise it stands a good chance of checking
Love it!
Thank you very much
Very nice 👍
Thank you!
0:23 how come you have to wait 8 months after cutting the branches?
If the wood isn't given time to season it will crack badly if you start to work it as it will dry too quickly.
it looks nice, but did it work?
What is he rubbing witj
It's a mix of beeswax and mineral oil
Awesome bro!
Thank you, my friend!
